Empress of the Deep: The Darkest Secret is a puzzle-based adventure game available for Apple products and Windows PCs. It was released in 2010 by Silverback Games. The game costs about 4.5 EUR / 6 USD to buy, but has a free trial you can try before deciding whether to buy or not.
The game itself is part of the "hidden object" subtype of adventure games, in which players mostly have to scour the often hand-drawn backgrounds with their cursor while looking for usable items. In Empress of the Deep, you control Anna, a mysterious woman who awakens from a coma and finds herself trapped in an undersea temple without any memory of how she came to be there. An unknown benefactor voice urges her to rise up and save her people.
The game is fairly light on the non-hidden object puzzles, and most of those are simple, familiar types like Towers of Hanoi. The game relies heavily on hidden-object searching, and it does an exceptional job on that part with lots of hand-drawn backgrounds.
The game is very high-quality both in terms of audio and graphics, is very strong on the hidden objects part but is very short. It takes about 2-3 hours to complete it even for a beginner.
