  • Pirate101 is the newest entry in the free to play "101" MMORPG series by KingsIsle Entertainment. It was released in 2012. The game is similar to Wizard101, their other MMORPG. Just like that game, Pirate101 has colorful graphics and vivid world, and is more aimed at children and teenagers that the average MMO.

The game creates a very nice pirate-y atmosphere, which is a similar romantic pirate-themed look as the Pirate of the Caribbean movies. The graphic is colorful and cartoony-looking, like Disney cartoons, but it has some darker shades as well at a few locations. Also the game's interface and controls are reminiscent of Wizard101, so player of that game immediately feel at home when they jump ship to this one.

The combat is turn-based with a few improvements over Wizard101, but is still deemed too hard for the average kids who would be the game's target audience. Combat can be three ways: on foot while on land, ships can battle each other with cannon fire or by boarding each other. This combat is innovative enough for a MMO game in its own, and is quite deep enough for both older players and children to get into. However, questing is the same FedEx and Kill ten rats style as in almost every other MMO.

The community is friendly, and parents can control their child's chat capabilities to reduce the risk of them being harassed or scammed by foreigners.
