Sparta: War of Empires is a free to play online social real-time strategy game developed and maintained by Plarium. It is run on Facebook, and is similar to Plarium's other Facebook-based strategies, such as Soldiers Inc. It is full of the same timers you can see on every similar game, such as longer and longer waiting for buildings, army movement timers, recruitment timers, and more. At first there will be several hours of gameplay, but a bit later at most it will take 20 minutes to check up on your little empire. The game has lots of different things to pay attention to, which alleviates the timer problem a bit.
The game is set in the glory days of ancient Sparta, where they have to build up a Spartan city-state, under the guidance of none other than Leonidas himself. The game is a familiar social type city-builder with historically somewhat accurate buildings and units, some begging to post to your Facebook wall and invite your friends, but these can be ignored easily. The game also features Drachmas, a premium currency which is used to instantly finish buildings, several special units and more, just like other of its genre.
The graphics are quite good for a game in this genre. Sadly the same doesn't go for the gameplay, which just follows the other similar strategy game's footsteps, and apart from the audio, doesn't even try to stand out with anything.
